Aloe and its cooling soothing energy can help soothe sunburns, skin problems, minor wounds, sores, soar muscles, bruises, insect bites, and even frostbite. The reason we see aloe vera used for after-sun care, or as a topical first aid product, is largely due to the salicylic acid and magnesium found in this plant, which works together to help ease pain and to comfort the body. Salicylic acid is an organic compound used widely in various products and medicines.
Aloe holds effective anti-inflammatory properties. Since inflammation is usually caused by oxidative damage due to free radicals, aloe vera acts as an antioxidant that fights free radicals. Consuming aloe vera juice improves digestion and can help relieve hyperacidity, ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Aloe vera can be used as a natural laxative. It helps boost intestinal peristalsis, preventing constipation.
Aloe helps naturally with skin exfoliation. The salicylic acid aloe vera contains acts as an exfoliator, helping to gently slough off dead skin cells. Take some aloe gel and mix in a bowl with sugar and olive oil to make a simple fresh DIY body scrub.
When plant aloe is applied to the skin its cooling properties instantly help soothe because the skin, the largest body organ, drinks up the moisture. If you use aloe on a sunburn it will help cool the skin while also nourishing the area it’s applied.
So next time you see this unique succulent plant with its thick juicy leaves, be reminded of how powerful this plant is to heal the body, and it even helps clean the air too! Aloe is easy to grow! So if you are able, try growing an aloe plant in a pot inside your house or out in a garden, or plant one in the wild. A small aloe plant in a pot is also a wonderful gift idea!
